Ethical Dilemmas: Would You Speak Up?
When have you spoken up for quality, compliance, or ethics?
Culture is tested when it’s inconvenient to act with integrity.
I once spotted a borderline ethical issue that an executive did not want to touch. After all, there was a lot of money on the line.
I raised it, quietly, constructively, and directly with the executive making the call.
I stated that we could take a shortcut now and look good, but risk our reputation, operation, and finances, or we can address it head-on and tackle the real problem completely.
Though uncomfortable, addressing it promptly brought the costly issue to light, and doing so built trust over time.
“Don’t let loyalty to people stand in the way of truth and the well-being of the organization.”
----Principles by Ray Dalio (Chapter 3: Believability Weight Your Decision Making)
Ethics isn’t always about big moments. It’s also about brave choices in small ones.
